A foremost lawyer and a senior Advocate of Nigeria, Etigwe Uwa, declared interest to contest the Abia State Governorship election in 2023 under the All Progressive Grand Alliance.

Uwa, said he chosed APGA after due consultation that the party was the best platform to put Abia state on the right track for development.

He has decried the low level of development allegedly experienced in the state, stressing the need for a change in the statusquo in order to turn around the fortunes of the state.

Uwa, spoke during a press briefing in Umuahia the state capital on Sunday.

He expressed deep sadness and worry on how the state has fared in the past sixteen years, saying it was due to excessive bad leadership and lackadaisical attitude of her leaders and vowed to make Abia an envy of other states if elected.

He alleged that poor leadership has made Abia which was once reverred among her peers a laughing stock.

According to him, "Abia requires redemption and restoration. The retirees and workers who are being owed backlog of salaries and pensions keep saying things can't remain the same, even those who are not from here equally echoing the same sentiment.

"we've been left behind due to inconsistent and bad leadership and therefore something drastic has to be done to restore the state to where it rightly belongs.

"Despite being democratical and republical in nature,  few individuals to determine the destiny of the state through foisting of an  annointed candidate".

He reminded all Abians that power truly belongs to the people and not a few priviledged persons, urging them to brace up for the task ahead to rid the state of perpetual poor leadership.

The aspirant acknowledged the fact that Abians in general are hardworking and creative people who only needs an enabling environment to thrive and that he is more than willing to provide it.

"We provide good health centres, good roads, regular electricity supply through collaboration with geometric power, building of factories which will in turn provide employment for the teeming masses and also transform Aba into an economic hub through provision of garment industries that will not only serve the Nigerian market but the world market at large", he stated.
