One Absu student was abducted in Okigwe - VC Ogbonnaya Ikokwu, Umuahia


The Vice Chancellor Abia State University Uturu, Prof. Maxwell Ogbulu, has confirmed that one student of the university was involved during the abduction of passengers of a mini van in Okigwe, Imo state last Wednesday. 

Recall that unspecified number of people were reportedly kidnapped by yet to be identified hoodlums along the Okigwe-Uturu road between the hours of  7-8 pm.

It was gathered that the victims of the incident were passengers including students of the University moving from Uturu to Okigwe. 

According to the VC who spoke in Umuahia the state capital on Friday early investigations showed that the hoodlums had stopped and marched their victims into a nearby forest, while two students who managed to escape from them rasied the alarm, one student and other passengers are still in the kidnappers hideout.

The vice Chancellor also revealed that the management of the University through its security outfit is working assiduously in assisting both the Imo and Abia  state Government and law enforcement agencies to rescue the victims. 

He disclosed that security have been beefed up around the University community to avert any further occurrence of such ugly incident in the University.

Ogbulu, called on the members of public and the University community to remain calm, as no effort will be spared in ensuring the safety of the student and other victims of the incident.

"Let me assure you that Abia state Universitity is safe and staff and students are going about their normal academic activities", he said.

He commended Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, for his prompt response in addressing the challenge and for his assurance that no criminal operating within the state will be allowed to escape justice.
