Alex Otti Foundation screens students for schoolarship award


The Alex Otti Foundation on Saturday concluded her screening process for the 2021 schoolarship scheme.

The screening which was conducted by Chude Jideonwo, Blossom, Ozurumba and Jude Egbas was intended to make the final decision on those to be shortlisted for the scheme.

The foundation's executive director Mr Chinedu Ekeke, told Journalists that 58 out of 800 candidates qualified for the screening after the first  screening interview.

He added that the candidates were drawn from various public tertiary institution across Nigeria.

He explained that the scheme is intended to help students from indigent background to succeed in their academic pursuit. 

He said, The criteria to qualify for the scholarship includes that the candidate must be an indigene of Abia State or  resident in the state. 

"Others whose parents are resident in Abia can also be beneficiary of the scheme.

"The candidate must be in second year of studies and have a cumulative Grade Point Average of 3.5 for universities and 2.5 for Polytechnics and Monotechnics.

"The foundation is gender and religion sensitive. We don't discriminate on who gets the scholarship on basis of sex or religious basis. 

The executive director explained that candidates are expected to undergo two thorough screenings processes supervised by foriegn and local judges. 

He added that the  foundation would fund the education of all candidates who scores its average point till graduation, provided they maintained a sterling academic performance.

Ekeke revealed that the scheme scholarship is solely sponsored by Dr Alex Otti, a chieftain of the All Progressive Congress in Abia State.
